Emily Holland-Nelson, MS, CPO, Certified Prosthetist Orthotist, Practice Manager
Emily Holland-Nelson earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering in Materials Science and Engineering and a Master of Science in Engineering in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Michigan. She later earned a Master of Science in Orthotics and Prosthetics from Eastern Michigan University. Emily completed her prosthetic residency at the University of Michigan Orthotics & Prosthetics Center and her orthotics residency at the UCSF Orthotic and Prosthetic Center.
Emily is particularly passionate about upper and lower extremity prosthetics and the problem-solving required to address each patient’s individual functional needs. Her engineering background contributes to her interest in the technical and biomechanical aspects of O&P, evidence-based practice, clinical data, advanced prosthetic componentry, digital design, and 3D printing. She especially enjoys working with geriatric patients and values developing long-term relationships with patients and their families.
Before entering O&P, Emily worked for several years as an engineer in a consumer healthcare manufacturing facility, gaining experience in product development, process improvement, project management, and technical problem-solving. Her professional involvement includes co-presenting a Thranhardt Lecture at the 2021 AOPA Conference on “Treatment Parameters for the UCSF Pectus Carinatum Orthosis: A Pilot Study”, participating in the Women in O&P panel at the 2024 COPA Symposium, and serving as an NCOPE residency mentor.
Emily first learned about O&P in high school after seeing sled hockey players at her local ice rink. After several years working as an engineer in the healthcare sector, she decided she wanted a patient-facing career and returned to school to pursue orthotics and prosthetics.
Outside of the clinic, Emily enjoys spending time with her family and dog. She has played ice hockey for more than 25 years and also enjoys puzzles, brainteasers, games, projects on her 3D printer, and supporting women’s sports.
Juliann Johnson, MS, Resident
Juliann Johnson earned a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Lifespan & Allied Health from Concordia University Irvine and a Master of Science in Orthotics & Prosthetics from California State University, Dominguez Hills. She began her residency with Pacific Medical in July 2025.
Juliann is particularly interested in lower-extremity prosthetics and orthotics and enjoys helping patients through rehabilitation and return to previous activities. She especially enjoys working with pediatric patients and values their determination and resilience.
Juliann began her O&P career after graduating with her master’s degree in May 2025 and starting her Pacific Medical residency shortly afterward. She also actively volunteers with the Challenged Athletes Foundation, where athletes with a variety of physical disabilities participate in adaptive sports and community activities.
Juliann was drawn to O&P because it allows her to continue studying how the human body moves, heals, and adapts while also working with her hands to build prosthetic devices. She values being able to apply that knowledge directly to helping others and improving quality of life.
